China 7050 Aluminum Sheet

7xxx aluminum alloy’s main alloy is zinc. It also has a small amount of magnesium and copper. Its hardness is close to steel. 7050, 7005 and 7075 are the typical ones of 7 series aluminum alloy. They are widely used in viation (aircraft load-bearing components, landing gear), rockets, propellers, aerospace ships and other places.

The common temper of 7050 aluminum sheet is T7651, which combines high strength, good spalling corrosion resistance and average SCC resistance. It has better resistance to SCC and excellent peeling resistance at lower strength levels.

7050 alloy is developed on the basis of aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloys. To improve the strength of the alloy, the only way to increase the concentration of zinc and magnesium. But after the content of Zn+Mg ≥ (8-9)%, although the strength can be increased to more than 600N/mm2, the plasticity and stress corrosion resistance are strongly reduced, and the use value is lost.

Later, it was discovered that copper can effectively improve the plasticity and corrosion resistance of high-concentration aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloys. Especially after chromium can significantly improve the stress corrosion resistance, aluminum-zinc-magnesium-copper alloys have been developed, which creates a condition for the birth of 7050 aluminum alloy.

It has lower quenching sensitivity and strength retention in thick plate. so it is particularly suitable for thick plate applications (3″ to 6″ thick). Therefore, 7050 aluminum alloy plate is the first choice for making fuselage frames, bulkheads and wing skins.

7050 alloy has high plasticity, plane strain fracture toughness and low quenching sensitivity, becoming a kind of aircraft aluminium sheet and forging aluminum alloy with the best comprehensive performance.

7075 aluminum plate is a super hard aluminum alloy with good wear resistance. Al 7075 t651 has stronger strength than mild steel, and is known as the best product among aluminum alloys. The main applications are aerospace, mold processing, mechanical equipment, tooling and fixtures, especially for the manufacture of aircraft structures and other high-stress structures that require high strength and strong corrosion resistance.

Why Is Aluminium Used For Aircraft Bodies

According to reports, for every 1 kg reduced, the launch cost of the spacecraft will save about 20,000 dollars. Therefore, structural weight reduction can be described as a “gramme care” in the aerospace field.

If the weight of the fighter is reduced by 15%, the taxiing distance of the aircraft can be shortened by 15%, the range can be increased by 20%, and the effective load can be increased by 30%. Therefore, countries all over the world attach great importance to the research and development of lightweight structural materials for aerospace.

aircraft aluminum sheet metal.jpgAircraft aluminum alloy is widely used in the aerospace field due to its low density, moderate strength, easy processing and forming, strong corrosion resistance, rich resources, and strong recyclability. The skins, beams, ribs, stringers, bulkheads and landing gears on the aircraft can all be made of aluminum alloy.

Depending on the purpose of the aircraft, the amount of aluminum used varies. The aluminum alloy percentage in the manufacturing materials of civil aircraft that focus on economic benefits is very high. For example, the aluminum alloy used in the Boeing 767 passenger aircraft accounts for about 81% of the weight of the body structure.

At present, aluminum alloy materials used in aviation and civil aircraft mainly include: aluminum alloy castings, aluminum alloy forgings, large-section aluminum alloy extruded profiles, aluminum alloy thick plates, and aluminum-lithium alloys.

Aviation aluminum alloys are mainly deformable aluminum alloys that can be heat treated, such as 2000 and 7000 series aluminum alloys. Aluminum alloy 2024 is used for aircraft structural parts. 2048 aviation aluminum alloy is mainly used to manufacture aerospace vehicle structural parts and weapon structural parts.

2218 is mainly used in aircraft engines and diesel engine pistons, aircraft engine cylinder heads, jet engine impellers and compressor rings. 2219 is used for welding oxidizer tanks of space rockets, supersonic aircraft skins and structural parts.

7049 is used for aircraft and missile parts, such as landing gear hydraulic cylinders and extrusions. 7050 aviation aluminum alloy is used for medium and thick plates, extrusions, free forgings and die forgings of aircraft structural parts. 7178 aviation aluminum alloy is used to manufacture parts and components that require high compressive yield strength for aerospace vehicles.

7475 aluminum sheet is used for fuselage panels, wing skeletons, stringers, etc. 7A04 is used for aircraft skins, screws, and force-bearing components such as girder stringers, bulkheads, wing ribs, and landing gear. 7075 aluminum plate is used for the upper outer panel of the wing, stringer, wing rib, empennage, etc.

The Differences Between 6061, 6063 and 7075 Aluminum Sheet

As the three main kinds of aluminum alloy sheets, 6061, 6063 and 7075 aluminum sheet all have their rich uses. What are their differences? Lets have a look together.

what-is-the-difference-between-7075-and-6061-aluminum-plates.jpg

1. Different alloy elements

6061aluminum plate and 6063 aluminum plate are 6 series aluminum plates. Its main alloy elements are aluminum, magnesium, and silicon. The main alloys of 7075 aluminum sheet are aluminum and zinc.

The silicon content of the 6061 aluminum plate is between 0.4 and 0.8, and the magnesium content is between 0.8-1.2; while the 6063 silicon content is between 0.2-0.6 and the magnesium content is 0.45-0.9.

Due to the content of silicon and magnesium, the 6061aluminum sheet is generally stronger than 6063 in terms of hardness. 6061 aluminum alloy and 6063 aluminum alloy also have a big difference in tensile strength. With different annealing and quenching conditions, the former is between 150-290 or less and the latter is between 135-240 or less.

2. Different applications

6061 aluminum plate is suitable for various industrial structures requiring certain strength, weldability and high corrosion resistance such as trucks ships, precision molding, etc.

6063 alloy aluminum plate is used for building profiles, irrigation pipes and extrusion materials for vehicles, benches, furniture, fences, etc.

7075 aluminum plate is used to manufacture aircraft structures and other high-stress structural parts and molds that require high strength and strong corrosion resistance.
